Last weekend we were kindly invited to review The Retreat at Redworth Hall.
Redworth Hall is situated just five minutes off the A1 tucked away in 26 acres of leafy landscaped grounds. They’ve spent millions on the leisure and spa facilities and it’s been completely transformed to create a new Decleor spa with six luxurious treatment rooms (including a dual room), a relaxation room featuring Gharieni thermal loungers, a new L’Oreal hair & nail salon and an expansive, new gym. There’s also a new restaurant & bar – The Lounge – offering a delicious all-day menu.
We arrived for our spa day at around 10:30 am where we were shown around the spa facilities, gym and treatment rooms. We were then greeted in the reception area with a welcome smoothie to enjoy whilst filling in our treatment forms and handed robes and slippers. The staff were lovely and went out of their way, I didn’t have any change for the lockers so they kindly gave us tokens to use!
We got changed into our swimming costumes and headed to the pool area, where there’s a 14m heated swimming pool, a Jacuzzi, steam room and sauna for guests to use and enjoy. The pool area hasn’t changed and is not as modern compared to the other contemporary, modernised areas of The Retreat. We had a swim, dipped into the Jacuzzi and relaxed on the loungers by the pool before our afternoon tea.
The new restaurant, The Lounge, is gorgeous with soft suede seating, fairy lights and a giant cherry tree in the centre of the room. Our afternoon tea was presented beautifully and included a tower of sandwiches, scones, clotted cream and cakes galore. The bread was soft, the scones still warm and there were enough dessert options for even the fussiest of eaters. As I mentioned earlier there was a form to fill out beforehand so they cater to any allergies/diet requests in advance but we loved everything. Just a shame we couldn’t manage to finish it all really. I liked that we didn’t feel rushed, we were just left to enjoy everything at our own pace, which added to the relaxing atmosphere. If afternoon tea isn’t quite your thing there’s plenty of things to choose from such as sandwiches, smoothies and salads.
It was almost time for our treatments so we headed to the tranquillity room prior to our massages. This entire part of The Retreat was so relaxing, from the music to the soft lighting and heated thermal loungers, we could have fallen asleep. Shortly after our therapist escorted us to a couples treatment room, we were being treated to a Hot Lava Shell back, shoulder, neck and scalp massage. We were asked beforehand about our pressure preferences and then told how to lay on the bed and they let me know where to put my swimming costume down to. A nice little touch and sometimes I’m not always 100% sure and it’s nice not to be stood (or laid) there feeling like a lemon when you are supposed to be relaxing!
I have to say this is one of the best massages I have had. I left feeling really impressed as I asked for a light to medium pressure but I was asked a few times throughout if everything was okay for me, temperature and pressure wise. I felt like the spa therapist responded to my body and I knew I had a few knots in my shoulders and she really helped ease them out at a pressure I was comfortable with. The hot lava shell stones mixed with aromatherapy oils felt amazing, I seriously could have fallen asleep. I appreciated the fact that I was asked if I minded about the oils going in my hair for the scalp massage, which I didn’t at all I loved every minute. We left feeling full, relaxed and chilled out.
If you’re looking to treat someone for a special occasion or maybe indulge in a little me time there’s plenty of spa packages available to treat yourself. The Retreat also offers a range of indulgent spa experiences as gift vouchers, from individual treatments to luxurious spa days and overnight breaks.
