Helmsley is a little market town here in North Yorkshire even more pretty in the summer, with its beautiful blooms. It still looks as gorgeous as ever on a snowy February morning. I drive through Helmsley quite often so this morning I decided to park up, have a walk around and explore a little for a change.
There’s a whole range of cafe’s offering home-baked goods and cream teas it took all of my willpower not to sit and have a scone, with clotted cream and jam. As well as cafe’s galore there’s a bookshop, a traditional old-fashioned sweet shop, many pubs to choose from, butchers and even an outdoor swimming pool. In the world of Instagram, with travel bloggers sharing incredible pictures from all around the world it can be easy to forget how beautiful the places are right on your front door-step.
Every now and again I like just getting in my car, armed with my camera, seeing where I end up and taking some photographs. I recently visited a hotel in Durham for the afternoon (Whitworth hall) where you can go and feed the resident deer. I had one of the best days in a long time. I ended up very muddy but it was so worth it, I wasn’t stood behind a fence, I was in the field with these gorgeous creatures, and I bought a bag of feed for just £1.00 from reception. You can see me living my best life feeding these cuties in my profile over on my instagram stories
It was amazing having them eat from the palm of my hand; I had the whole field all to myself! In the video on my profile you can just see the little baby deer in the background they were adorable. As I mentioned earlier, it was super muddy (RIP my black Vans) so definitely, take a pair of wellies with you, if you’re thinking of going anytime soon.
If you’re ever in the area, it’s worthwhile giving these places a visit. I wanted to sneak one of these cuties home with me, but I can’t imagine Oscar being too happy about it.
