The other day Tom and I headed out on an adventure. We went to North Shire, we arrived at ‘Potts Corner’ a house fit for a hobbit (or six). You may recognise this familiar setting and scene, a Hobbit house from The Shire in the Lord of The Rings films.
First impressions on opening the gate and walking up to the house, was simply incredible. We were blown away. The detail is outstanding, from the paving stones, to the door, to the stained glass windows and the bench outside. For Lord of The rings fans, it just doesn’t get any better than this.
Potts Corner Hobbit house is available to book for week-long or weekend visits it’s located on my very own door step in North Yorkshire (incredible!) Built by Carol Hopkinson and Karl Wragg. Here’s our experience… We turned the key, and stepped through the giant hobbit door, we might as well have been on the film set. It felt so magical and exciting, and we are two fully grown adults, so for children and families it will be even better. The inside of the Potts Corner certainly did not disappoint. It was so cosy, welcoming and warm. Read on to see what we got up too during our stay in the (North York) Shire
In the living room there is a large TV, magazines, games available, and of course a few Lord of the Rings books dotted about for good measure. The North Shire welcome book provided lots of information for local activities, lots to see, things to do, and places to eat.
We just enjoyed snuggling up on the sofa with a glass of wine, and taking it all in, we wanted to spend as much time in the actual house as possible. It was such a lovely experience, despite it being December, we didn’t have to worry about it being cold, the central heating meant we were toasty all night long.
I loved that the house is filled to the brim with quirky and interesting oldy-worldy style trinkets and knick knacks, very Bilbo Baggins-esque style.
In the kitchen you will find a hob, a fridge, there’s lots of cutlery, bowls, glasses and plates provided too.
Whilst we were both running around getting excited about all of the cool references to the film, I did get pretty excited about that pastel fridge and b-e-a-utiful sink.
The two bedrooms are opposite each other, this hobbit house can sleep up to six people, I absolutely adored the snug little hobbit sized beds, they were so comfy. We both really felt we were living just like hobbits, climbing up steps to get into bed for the evening.
This bedroom has just the one hobbit bed, with a beautiful stained window into the bathroom. There’s a side table, with stacked books for legs, coloured lanterns and lots of underbed storage! Do not be fooled, although it’s a hobbit house, it’s not hobbit sized… we had plenty of room in the beds!
The bathroom was stunning, I loved the enormous, luxurious bath, Perfect to relax in after a busy day. The wooden mirror had that typical rustic hobbit like charm but if you looked up there was a ceiling painted with stars, there really is magic everywhere you look in this house.

How quirky is this sink, in the bathroom made from an old jam pan on a wooden barrel. I love how they’ve made sure there’s all the necessary home comforts, just in their own quirky Tolkien way!
I loved laying in the huge bath with bubbles galore, totally relaxed looking at this beautiful view. Ahh, straight out of Middle Earth, much?
Getting into the true hobbit lifestyle, I made a little lord of the rings themed birthday tea / feast for Toms arrival. As you can see I had some fun playing with Lord of the rings puns… there’s ‘wines of moria’ a plate of po-ta-toes, Lembas bread, Grapes of Gondor.
I loved how much this meant to Tom, from someone who is such an avid fan to stay in a real life hobbit house. Tom is the die hard fan in this relationship, I’ve seen all the films, we were there at midnight to see The Hobbit: The battle of the five armies, but even I was so excited just to be here, as you can probably tell by this post.
This bedroom has two hobbit beds, look at that incredible stained glass window, with a table lamp on stacked books. It was a pleasure just spending time in here, we felt so cosy listening to the rain fall outside.
Just look at that door.
What do you think of this UK hobbit house? If you’d like to pay North Shire a visit and go on a grand adventure then I have linked their website above, or you can check out some more pictures and reviews over on their Facebook page. Tom was over the moon with visiting here for his birthday, I think even if you don’t happen to be a huge Lord of The Rings fan, it’s simply incredible no matter what and such a unique place, it wasn’t just a weekend away, it was an experience!

I didn’t even know this place existed but now I do I have to go! The door is just amazing!
