I remember rifling through my mum’s makeup bag at the age of about fourteen and coming across her Yves Saint Laurent Touche Eclat concealer pen. It has become a staple in my make up bag ever since. So when YSL offered to send me some products from their new complexion range, I was seriously over the moon. It has always been drilled into me that good skin = good makeup. You have to create a good starting base to build your make up on, but not everyone is blessed with good skin. As someone who suffered from acne for many years, I have large pores, an oily t-zone, dry patches, uneven skin tone and scarring from previous acne breakouts. YSL has created products to help with these common complexion woes.
There are three shades to choose from in the neutraliser range, each colour designed to combat a different skin concern. Apricot to neutralise dark spots, violet to neutralise dull skin and green to neutralise redness. I have found the green colour corrector pen perfect for masking redness from the odd blemish and the apricot correcter pen brightens up the dark circles underneath my eyes. I don’t know why but I didn’t expect the formula to be so thick, yet light I was pleasantly surprised when I applied them for the first time! Super blendable, buildable and not cakey whatsoever. They sit beautifully under my foundation and concealer, and they do not crease – hallelujah, I cannot stand it when things crease and settle into fine lines.
Next up is Souffle D’Eclat a loose setting powder, that gives a velvety finish. I love trying out new setting powders because I have an oily t-zone if I want my make up to stay put all day, I usually have to set my t-zone with a powder. This one has reached holy grail status I love that this is mattifying my face yet doesn’t look flat or chalky if that makes sense, it blurs my pores and absorbs excess oil without drying out my skin if you have combination skin you need this setting powder like yesterday. This powder is pricey at £39.00 but the pot is huge, and a little goes a very long way!
Moisture glow is part of YSL’s top secrets range and its one of the brands best-selling products. First things first I love the packaging, it’s travel and makeup bag friendly while still feeling chic and high end in true YSL style. Moisture glow applies like a skin coloured gel and immediately sinks into the skin, my skin felt instantly smooth and airbrushed. I love that it didn’t sit on my skin, some primers feel tacky, but this made my skin feel like velvet, it didn’t cling or emphasise my dry patches or ‘ball up’ on my oily t-zone. When I apply this as a primer under my foundation, it is a godsend for my dull, dehydrated skin, I then set my foundation with the Souffle D’Eclat setting powder (on my t-zone mainly), and my make up has stayed put for 14 hours. An absolute dream team combo here. If you have dull, dehydrated skin, with large pores this one is for you. It will lock in moisture while creating a flawless base for your foundation.
As someone who is always conscious and very aware of my enlarged pores and acne scarring, it is so lovely to find products to help combat these complexion concerns without feeling like I am applying thick heavy products to my skin on a daily basis. I love that all of these are lightweight and natural looking as can be! If something is thick and heavy, it often seems cakey on my skin, and I feel like I want to claw my make up off.
Very excited to keep trying these beauties, is there anything, in particular, you’d like to try from these ranges?
