Yesterday evening my mum and I headed to Seaham Hall in County Durham, for a ‘twilight spa’ session which is 6:00pm until 10:00 pm. My lovely brother’s idea of a treat as my mum had been a little under the weather recently, so we decided a spa evening would be perfect! It was only a short drive away, we arrived at around 5:30 and drove up the long driveway it immediately felt so peaceful, the sun was shining and there were birds singing and little rabbits popping up everywhere – adorable!
We were greeted by the staff who checked us in and took a dinner reservation, we were then given a tour of the Serenity Spa! My mum just kept saying she felt like she was on holiday, after being shown around we were taken to the changing rooms. The inner nerd in me seriously loved the fact that the lockers didn’t require a key to carry around or loose change – you simply put in your own four digit pin code, twice to lock, once to un-lock. Each locker contained a fresh towel, a robe and slipper style flip-flops. I really liked the fact that next to the showers, there was an abundance of towels of all sizes, you were free to help yourself too, I like little touches like this as one of my pet hate is soggy towels after being in the shower or the pool! Maybe that’s just me?!

We were spoilt for choice upon entering the spa, we didn’t know what to try first! I love how everything is very luxurious, but also so relaxed, everyone just seemed so comfortable and friendly. We even dined in our robes and slippers but I’ll tell you more about that later! After a swim in the pool, sat against the massage stations, we tried out the hydrotherapy pool and the sauna before seriously cooling down in the plunge pools! We wanted to dry off a little before dinner, so we headed to the relaxation rooms, where we laid back on the heated lounger chairs oh how I wish I could have taken one of them home with me. I am so, so grateful it didn’t rain (it was forecast thunderstorms and heavy rain warnings eek!) as I loved walking around all the outside balcony’s and relaxing in the outdoor wooden hot tubs.

We had a dinner reservation at 6:30 in the o-zone restaurant, a pan-asian style restaurant – I was a little worried about this as I am a fussy eater and wasn’t sure what would be on the menu, however I had ginger chicken stir fry with vegetables and sticky jasmine rice… it was amazing. At first we felt a little bit odd sat in a gorgeous restaurant in our dressing gowns and slippers but everyone was doing it, there was an old couple next to us who joked they felt overdressed because they were in normal clothes! I did find the drinks menu ever so slightly on the steep side at £5.50 for a glass of Lemonade, however when it arrived my mum and I both agreed it was the best, Lemonade that we had ever tasted. The staff were all so friendly, little touches like my chair being pulled out for me or how my drink arrived, all added to the feeling of being totally pampered! For dessert I had passion fruit cheesecake with mango sorbet, which was to die for, it was so airy and light which was ideal as we were heading back into the spa after dinner!
Feeling content and full we headed back into the spa, for another swim in the pool and a quick dip in the hot tub before heading home. It was lovely to take some time out and really relax with my mum, are you a fan of Spa days or should I say Spa evenings?
