I wanted to try something new.. I wanted to try out a high end foundation I searched for reviews high and low for a few days and settled on this foundation after reading raving reviews on make up alley (it has a score of 4.2) and other websites. It took me 10 minutes to click ‘purchase’ on the feel unique website as it’s £35.00 which is very unusual for me to spend on just one make up product. But i figured it would be worth it if my skin looked great and with it being a base product I’d get my money’s worth out of it.
When I first apply this foundation it looks really nice, the foundation isn’t heavy and feels light it looks like a perfect shade match. 10 mins later…I couldn’t believe it when I looked in the mirror. It had oxidised terribly and was 2 shades darker my face now looked orange. For someone who has oily skin this managed to hunt out any slight dry patches and clung to them like crazy. It also separated into big patches all over my face EVEN my boyfriend managed to this notice and asked me why my face looked ‘all bitty’
I wasn’t ready to give up just yet not after spending so much money.. I figured I must be doing something wrong.. So the next morning I exfoliated my face, used a different moisturiser and a different primer underneath. Again initially it looked okay. But after five minutes it had already darkened and looked orange on my face considering I bought the shade ivory.. which in other brands I would be the second or third lightest shade I don’t consider this to be a true ivory shade at all. It looked so bad I just washed it off. I have now tried applying it with my hands, my real techniques expert face brush and even a damp beauty sponge but sadly nothing seems to work. It still highlights my pores terribly despite using different primers it still separates like something awful on my skin.
IF you think it’s anything I’m doing and you can give me any tips on how to get on with this foundation or if there’s something I’m doing wrong please let me know in the comments. I guess I’m just a bit gutted that I spent so much on a product and I was expecting to love it but I don’t even like it. I could deal with a little bit of oxidisation but it’s just the fact that it separates and goes patchy on my skin not exactly the ‘flawless’ finish i was promised and hoping for.
Some plus points about this foundation is the packaging is luxurious, it contains SPF 25, it doesn’t have a strong scent and is easy to apply I needed two pumps to cover my face, it didn’t cause any breakouts..just a shame I can’t get on with it.
I know a few people will say I should have got a sample first but there isn’t a Dior counter for a good 2 hours from where I live otherwise I certainly would have before spending that much money..I guess I’ve learnt the hard way and I’ll have to sell it or give it to my mum! Have you tried this foundation? What did you think? Or have you ever been really disappointed about a high end product? This foundation is just not for me.
Oh my goodness I'm so glad someone agrees – I tried this foundation and thought exactly the same thing about the colouring. My skin is quite olive toned and it's really hard to make it look orange, but somehow this foundation did it. I also have oily skin and I felt like the foundation kind of almost slid off after a while! So disappointing.
A really good high end foundation if you have oily skin that I've found is the Clarins truly matte – it's lovely 🙂 xxx

I haven't tried this foundation, but I know exactly where you're coming from with being disappointed by a high end product. I bought the Laura Mercier silk creme foundation and it's just AWFUL on my skin, I'm so upset that I invested the money, and I too am quite far away from a counter that sells it, so sampling it wasn't really an option. One of my blogger friends Zoe is a makeup artist though and she said she was going to show me some tips on how to apply it, so I'll let you know if I have any joy!
I am however testing out some samples of NARS sheer glow, and so far so good!xx

I love this foundation SO much – it does everything I want and makes me look flawless. It's such a shame it doesn't work for you! What a waste of money when high end products don't work! Is there no possibility of returning it to get at least part of your money back? I'm sure if you wrote to Dior to complain about the oxidization they'd be horrified and might offer you an alternative? xxx

Oh Becky, I totally get you! It's so so disappointing when you're expecting great things from a product and it turns out to be a right dud. Especially something so expensive! It's a shame that you've not got on well with this foundation – I honestly think finding the right foundation for your skin is the most important thing about good makeup so I'm sorry that you spent so much on a product that doesn't work for you. I made the mistake of buying the wrong NARS foundation once (I ordered Sheer Matte instead of Sheer Glow and it was a complete nightmare for my skin!) Hopefully you can get a refund and buy something worth your while!
And by the way, it's refreshing to have a completely honest review on a beauty product so thank you for that!

It doesn't sound like it's anything you're doing wrong, as you've tried the main three different application methods, AND on top of that if a foundation doesn't sit right after exfoliation, moisturiser & a primer, then it's crap. Time to pop it on eBay my love… but it certainly is sucky right!? X

I really wanted to like Estee Lauder Double Wear and DW Light and took a sample of both, I just couldn't get them to work on me and the flash back because of the SPF was terrible. If you have oily skin my sister who does too (and is a makeup artist so knows her stuff) swears by Clarins Ever Matte, try and get a sample and maybe that will work for you 🙂

I always know that when my boyfiend notices something is bad, then it's bad. It's literally heartbreaking when you spend the money and it doesn't work. My highsteet foundations have been pretty good at the minute though and you sound like you have similar skin to me so maybe try revlon or bourjois? I hope you find something better.

I've never used a Dior foundation before but I have Chanel's Pro Lumière foundation (which has sadly been discontinued) and I think it's a shame that you're so disappointed by the Dior one 🙁 It's just awful because it's a lot of money!

I managed to get a sample of MAC Studio Sculpt and had exactly the same problem as you've had with this foundation! Glad I hadn't bought it before trying. I've read someone say before that they managed to get a refund, so I think you should give it a go!

Oh dear me! £35 and a less than lacking payout. Thats the issue with some high end products I guess. I had almost the exact same issue withe the Laura Mercier silk creme foundation. I tried it on at the counter, everything was fine, even the counter lady said it looked wonderful, bought it and the next day it was just horrendous! I know its not a high end foundation but i have never had any issues with the L'Oreal infallible lasting perfection, in fact its my favourite 🙂 xxx
Such a shame this turned out to be a awful product, i'v been looking for a better foundation for a while I think for now i'll stick with my reasonably priced soap and glory foundation.

Oh god, I remember when I first bought a high end product and after spending over £30 for a foundation I was expecting miracles. I can't remember the brand but the same thing happened to me, I remember putting it on my face and being mortified when it started to roll up into little balls.
I still haven't found the perfect foundation, but I am so weary when buying products online.

I just had the same issue with the Rimmel BB Cream. It makes me patchy and dry! I haven't used a high end foundation yet just because I can't bring my self to spend that amount of money on something I use so much and that I can find for cheaper and just as good at drug stores! What a shame… I would be sick if I'd spent so much on a product that doesn't even works…
I used to be completely addicted to high-end foundations, convincing myself that skin is an investment blah blah but since my sister forced me into trying the Rimmel Wake Me Up I'm a complete convert. I think with a lot of make-up it's almost a placebo effect, you spend a lot of money so automatically like it more to justify it. Thanks for the honest review!

I've never tried this foundation but i agree some high end products just don't work for certain people. For instance i use to use the estee lauder double wear, it looked terribly cakey! Now i use Chanel perfection lumiere and i love it! If you want to try another high end product i have an oily tzone at times and this works brilliantly for me.

I had this exact same problem with Dior's BB Cream. It wreaked havoc with my skin and really dried it out! It's really annoying forking out so much for a product you expect to be great quality… X

I don't think I had any problems with that foundation, apart from the fact that the shade range is a little disappointing. I think foundations are such a personal thing though, because they interact so much with your skin, that it's hard to have the same experience with a foundation! So frustrating, because it makes recs near useless. 🙁
One thing – not heavily scented? Did they change it? Because I remember a whole mess of Dior perfumery going on in mine.

I used to use this foundation a few years ago and I remember I LOVED it, I have oily skin too but it worked so well for me! One of those ones that I just haven't got around to repurchasing, not sure why as I did love it, loved the scent and another thing, not only did it last ages on my face as it says, the bottle lasted me so long too, I used to use it pretty much every day and I swear it lasted me a good year or something before it ran out! Actually this has reminded me I think I will have to repurchase next time I run out of foundation haha 🙂 such a shame you didn't like it! x

i just purchased the Dior forever on Friday, and i love it!.. i found the star foundation oxidised but the sales assistance (i asked in two different stores) said the star will oxidise, and the forever wont.
Oxidation can happen due to a few reasons, chemicals react to the ph levels of your skin and natural oils which can react with the ingredients in your foundation,, and most of the time its the oily skinned girls which go through oxidation.
The only time my foundation ever oxidises, is when i wear a moisturiser with a SPF in, or a spf on top i find my foundations go orange!.. hard to believe but im indian,.. and never thought id have orange skin haha..
Since the foundation already has SPF in maybe try a skincare without SPF in?, i also find when i apply foundation with a beauty blender, and i add a few drops of oil on (to enhance dewyness) some foundations can oxidise to! .. (Can confirm the oily skinned moment mensioned above!) if it helps when i went to Dior and they applied the foundation they applied a serum, not a moisturiser..
maybe try a spf-less moisturiser and primer so theres a barrier between your skin pH levels, and see how you go..
