Simple ways to be that little bit happier

So everyone has bad days, I thought I’d write a few tips on how to get through it a little bit quicker, there is no 10 step programme to happiness, but maybe these light hearted pieces of advice will help and make you feel a little bit better.

1.Always remember everything is temporary including sadness, being heart broken and school.

2. When you’re having a bad day. Avoid playing that Adele song on repeat, don’t watch The Notebook, Google videos of puppies and kittens (don’t act like you don’t already do that too.)

3. Keep a happy journal. If you aren’t really the pen and paper type. There’s tons of apps, for your phone, like gratitude journal. It’s easy to forget the happy moments when you’re feeling down but looking back on the good times does cheer you up.

4. Indulge yourself. Even if it’s just for one night, order that pizza, have that extra cookie, finish that tub of ice cream.

5. Give up participating in gossip and quit the bitching. Girls bitch about other girls. Women empower one another. Magnify other peoples strengths, compliment more. You’ll feel a lot better for it.

6. Change your hair style, try a new perfume. Read a whole chapter of that book you’ve been meaning to start.

7. That Netflix series will still be waiting for you when you get back, go to the gym, or even for a walk, it might seem like the last thing you want to do but you’ll feel better for some fresh air.

8. Spending money, doesn’t always make you happier. You might think you need those shoes from topshop. It’s usually a quick fix and buyers remorse will probably set in soon after pressing ‘order’.

9. Don’t dwell on bad things that have happened in the past, everyone has been hurt. You’ll get through it, surround yourself with positive people, it’s cliche but things really do get better with time.

10.  Don’t compare yourself to others, it never does any good, learn to love yourself and your body the way it is. the chances are you notice the bad things about yourself a lot more than anyone else does, they’re probably too busy doing the same. But I’m sure even Beyonce has bad body image days too, okay maybe not Beyonce but everybody else.

Love this, just what I needed as the standard Sunday night anxiety was sinking in xx

I love this, especially the last one. One of my favourite quotes is 'comparison is the thief of joy' and it reminds me of this! When we focus on ourselves and what we DO have, from my own experience, I know that we become much happier x

Can totally vouch for number 8! May have placed two rather painful orders this week because I was upset. It's a habit I need to break pronto.

  4. November 23, 2014 / 6:31 pm

Oh dear me the number of times I have thought 8 was a good idea…
Lovely post, didn't realise how much I needed to read something like this today aha x

Love this post! So true. I always try to stay positive and remind myself even when I'm feeling crappy that people are in much worse situations, and force myself to smile. Smiling and being positive tends to overwrite my negative feelings πŸ™‚

I like the idea of a happy journal, I've not heard that one before. I completely agree with number 7! I always feel so much better after a good gym session – all those endorphins πŸ™‚ xx

Such a perfectly inspiration post. #10 is totally true especially with social media. We see people on their extravagant holidays, amazing boyfriends, & cool parties, but that's not what it's all about. :] // β–² itsCarmen.com β–²

Love this post! Completely agree with the Fresh Air point, it's much better way to release stress and anger and I'm definitely going to check out that app, I tried keeping a "Happy Jar" but I soon stopped adding to it so having something really accessible would be great! xx

Great tips especially the one about bitching, don't waste energy being negative cutting someone else down will not make you any happier but building them up will. Happiness is infectious so surrounding yourself with happy things/people will no doubt help brighten your mood xoxo

I love these kind of posts! It's so hard to remember everything is just temporary so thanks for the reminder as sometimes it all feels too much haha!

I relate so much to number 2! I can't help watching puppies' videos. I also agree with number 7. Exercise and physical activities really help when you're feeling down. Number 10 is so true, but it's so hard not to compare yourself with others. There's an app that I really like. It's called Happier and it's a social network based on positivity and being grateful. πŸ™‚ I really enjoyed this post.

  20. November 24, 2014 / 1:21 am

Sometimes I get very stressed at work (I don't work a stressful job, I just sadly let things get to me!) and I find taking a 20-30 minute walk around the lake we have calms me down so much!

My favourite thing's to help recover:
    > Fresh bedding
    > New pj's (Primark is a holy grail of quick fixes with little buyers remorse)
    > A face mask or bath bomb
    > Cooking myself a nice meal (I enjoy the ritual of it)
