20 problems only short girls will understand…

Being under 5ft, I thought I’d write some problems that myself and fellow short girls experience on a daily basis. It’s just a bit of fun, no offence intended πŸ™‚

1. People like to pat you on the head, a lot.

2. Keeping up with fashion trends can be a struggle. Jeans that have ripped knees are great. Until you pull them on and realise the ‘ripped knees’ are closer to your ankles.
3. The top shelf in Tesco might aswell be Everest. Anyone else practically climbed the shelves?
4. You have to be at least 5’4 to be a princess at Disney World. Maybe we could apply for Tinkerbell?
5. Midi dresses are more like maxi dresses and high waisted jeans just about reach your underarms.
6. You have to mentally prepare yourself before getting up onto a barstool. Someone somewhere will ask you ‘do you need a hand getting up there’
7. You are often confused for being a school child or a 12 year old. However 12 year olds are usually taller than you.
8. Anything remotely ‘oversized’ looks like a potato sack on you.
9. You’re standing and someone’s sitting down next to you and they’re STILL taller than you. They will probably tell you this. As if you hadn’t already noticed.
10. Standing on your tippy toes at the bar to get noticed, let alone served.
11. Being Id’d for alcohol, goes without saying… Even lottery tickets, yes really.
12. “Is it weird being that short?” “How’s the weather down there?” “Would you like a kids menu?”
13. Going to hug a tall person and getting a crotch to the face.
14. People think it’s okay to use you as an arm rest.
15. Getting neck strain from constantly looking up at everyone.
16. Feelig like you’re always sitting in a high chair.
17. There’s no point in shopping in stores that don’t have a petite section.
18. Being asked if you need a booster seat, anytime you’re near a car.
19. People think it’s okay to pick you up.
20.  Being called an Oompa Loompa. When you’re not short you’re fun sized. You’re not small you’re just a people Mcnugget.
I hope you took these as just a bit of fun. If any fellow short girls have anymore they’d like to add please leave them in the comments πŸ™‚

When people take glee in your height because they're taller!

  2. October 21, 2014 / 7:59 pm

I'm slightly taller than you but I get a lot of these too. Mainly …

    1. Usually accompanied by 'You alright down there short arse'?
    3. I can be jumping up and down trying to reach the box I want and NO ONE ever offers to help!
    4. You freakin' what?! I still have a dream to be a Disney Princess. I really will have to be Tink!
    5. Maxi dresses have to be taken up a good foot at least πŸ˜‰
    6. Sometimes it's easier to lean on the bar stool!
    7. My 11 year old is the same height as me "/
    9. Why do they need to point out that I'm standing up yet they're still way taller than me?
    10. They might see me 3 hours later!
    13. Crotch face hugs are not pleasant!
    14. I think I'm at least a foot shorter than I used to be from people using me as an arm rest
    15. This probably explains my scoliosis!!

Great post. It's good to know I'm not alone!!!

I'm 5'2 (and a half) and spend my entire life on tip toes trying to enter my pin number or disappearing under a bar. It's a bit of a pain but I do like being little πŸ™‚ x

Oh gosh Becky, I can relate on all levels! I'm only just 5ft and people just LOVE telling me how small I am…like I hadn't noticed! And don't even get me started on finding jeans that fit well!

My own little one I'd like to add is actually one I find all the time…Only being able to see my forehead when looking in the mirror at other people's houses! My boyfriend actually had to lower all the mirrors in the flat when I moved in haha! xo

Oh my gosh I can relate to every point on here! Anyone else also had someone sit on them before with a casual 'oh sorry, I didn't see you there?!' -_- I love being little but it has its moments of pure frustration! xo

Yes I agree with everything on that list. I am very small maybe even under 5ft. I often get given a child's menu at restaurants which annoys me a lot xx

  10. October 21, 2014 / 8:42 pm

Oh yes! Maxi dresses and midis just don't happen πŸ™ My 12 year old daughter and 11 year old step daughter wear bigger clothes than me and the 7 year old is well on her way to being taller aswell! Oh well though, Tinkerbell is my favourite so I guess there is a silver lining x

  11. October 21, 2014 / 8:42 pm

This was funny to read because I can't really relate at 5'11! Although tall girls get equally as many annoying/similar questions so don't feel you're picked on haha. Hugging a small person and shoving your boobs in their face for example!

  12. October 21, 2014 / 8:46 pm

Haha this is brilliant! I'm 5ft2 and can relate to all of these, people using me as an arm rest in the most annoying, and they always acts as though they are just being affectionate because I'm 'so cute'. Right..

BUT tall people are always impressed that I can fit my hand into a Pringles tub! Party trick right there πŸ™‚

Great post but remember "Good goods come in small packages" so being small is good πŸ™‚ I'm 5 2 and I like being small, the only down side is if you put on weight it is more noticeable! But you get to see the world from a different perspective πŸ™‚ i.e. lower to the ground

    All things nice…

  14. October 21, 2014 / 9:19 pm

I can relate to so many of these haha! I'm 4ft11 and the struggle to find clothes that fit is unreal. I would shop in the kids section but having an hourglass figure makes it hard :') I'm so happy to see more stores in my area stocking petite clothing. I prefer to try stuff on and when a lot of places have their petite section online only it can get a little annoying.

It's not all bad though. I'm used to hugging my female friends and having my face meet their bosom which is always a laugh! I always tell people that in some cases the best things come in small packages haha ;D

  15. October 21, 2014 / 9:24 pm

YES! I'm 5' exactly and people always rest their arm on my head. And my parents included, like to stand right beside me and look down incredulously. Let's not forget always having to cuff jeans! Grr. And I've pretty much given up on finding a maxi dress that's not a wedding gown on me πŸ™
One thing I like about being short though is being able to fit in small crevices and being associated with the word 'cute' πŸ˜‰

So funny! No one can ever see you in a crowd! And the tallest person always seems to stand in front of you! People like to state oh I feel so tall next to you…..

  17. October 21, 2014 / 9:53 pm

Oh my goodness, yes! All of these things area so true, on a daily basis. All of my friends and coworkers make fun of me because I can't reach anything without having to climb up on counters or stools. And you get called midget a lot! I get it all the time! Haha

  18. October 21, 2014 / 10:25 pm

This is sooo true! I'm 1.51cm and 26 years old. In a club there are always little boys (15-16) years old flirting with me bc they think i'm also from their age :')

  19. October 21, 2014 / 10:36 pm

I used to think I was pretty darn tall until I stood next to my 20yr. Old! Not so much!:/

  20. October 21, 2014 / 10:53 pm

This has actually made me appreciate my height a bit more…normally being 5'10 is a bit annoying!

  21. October 22, 2014 / 12:21 am

My life to a T. I'm now 26 and get mistaken for a 15/16 year old all the time in the most awkward of situations. I don't get respect at my workplace from customers, they usually think I'm just tagging along with day for the day skipping school. Once I went to a steakhouse with the family, I was 22 maybe and my brother who is 8 years younger than me (and also literally a foot taller than me (I'm 5'3) was handed a grown up menu and I was handed a kids menu with crayons and all….I was shocked as the girl handing me these things looked about 12 herself. But what can ya do, just laugh and move on lol…

  22. October 22, 2014 / 12:46 am

This reminds me! I have this book (http://www.amazon.com/Id-Rather-Be-Short-Reasons/dp/0142196983). It's definitely an essential for short gals.
I'm so with you on all this though. I might have to leave this list somewhere just to remind myself that there are other teeny humans like myself. (-: I am 4'11"-ish. I like to say that I'm "5' on a good day." People really do have this strange obsession with picking us up. I don't get it. Maybe we should do that to them?? I seem to have a sign on me that tells people I need to be reminded of how short I am. I don't get it!!

  23. October 22, 2014 / 12:52 am

I'm around 5"5 which I would consider average height but I struggle so much with finding clothing to fit me! I still have to shop in the petite section or my jeans are miles too long.

  24. October 22, 2014 / 2:47 am

This is great! I was almost in tears after reading #6! It's so true! As for #11, I'm in my late 20s and just got IDed last week.. I thought he was joking. He wasn't… and then still looked at me like it was fake! ha

  25. October 22, 2014 / 3:47 am

I like being short, but I hear you on all of these. I especially relate to the barstool one. I really do get intimidated for a second before I climb up there and sit down on one.

  26. October 22, 2014 / 3:51 am

haha! omgosh I laughed so hard! These are all so relatable! I'm under 5 ft to or just 5ft so I really can relate.

  27. October 22, 2014 / 5:52 am

So funny and so true πŸ™‚

  28. October 22, 2014 / 6:38 am

Haha, this is brilliant! In a rather embarrassing combination of points 3 and 7, I once had to ask a school child to reach something off a shelf for me in Tesco…

  29. October 22, 2014 / 9:34 am

This is HILARIOUS. I relate, girl. Such an awesome post; really, power to the shorties πŸ™‚

  30. October 22, 2014 / 10:00 am

I can relate! I'm 5ft 2" and always feel the smallest out of everyone. When (on the very rare occasion) I happen to walk past someone who is smaller than me, it makes me feel like a giant, and I subconsciously walk beside them for a little while just to make myself feel better! My biggest annoyance is in the summer when you're trying to find a maxi dress for a holiday – it's just not going to happen!
    aworldfullofprettiness.blogspot.com

  31. October 22, 2014 / 1:41 pm

I can so relate to this post ….
I am 5ft 3 I own my own business and I just never feel like I am took seriously because I am so short people think I am like 16 even though I am 27. It makes me so madddddddddddddddd.
Everything you said is true we shouldn't be victimized like this . haha
And WHAT THE H*LL you have to be over a certain height to be a Disney Princess say whaaaaaatttttt it doesn't say how tall they are in the movie so how dare they make it up haha

Haha I love this and totally relate at a teeny 5ft 2! It's been made worse that my best friend is about 5 11, so the midget-ness is always pointed out! Also, people mcnugget is my fave thing ever, definitely going to be using that one!!

i'm afraid being 5ft11 i cant relate… but i'd swap my ankle swingers and constant belly out for your too long jeans and oversized potato sacks any day!! Β£25 for a pair of pyjama bottoms that somewhere near fit? bring on the far too long primark goodies

  39. October 22, 2014 / 8:22 pm

The classic `wow you really are tiny aren't you?`or `I never realised how small you actually are', usually followed by being called Titch…

  40. October 22, 2014 / 10:17 pm

I can relate, a lot! People always rest their arms on my shoulder… Or pat me on the head… Or pick me up because "waaa you're just so tiny!"
Oh well, I love being so small!

Wow… And I thought being 5'5" was bad. LOL

    sagedandconfused.wordpress.com

  42. October 24, 2014 / 5:55 pm

Sage I'd love to be 5'5"! I'm much shorter than that.

People have almost sat on me cause they didn't see me.:P

But there are a couple advantages to being little – like on planes and at concerts (we're pretty sure the same person designed them) you have room for you legs. And when there's a crowd you can go to the front, unlike your tall friends who are in the back and can't see anything. πŸ˜›

  43. October 28, 2014 / 12:33 am

I'm not the only one who goes through these problems on a day to day basis. The disadvantages of being 4'11 is when tall people you know or who you randomly meet at the store say "oh your so small, I wish I was your height, I hate being tall." Another disadvantage is when you're having a conversation with a tall person and they literally look down at you. Also does anyone have problems when someone tall puts a box of cereal or anything else on the top shelf in the pantry and walked away and a chair or broom is your last option.

  44. October 30, 2014 / 7:54 pm

I loved this. I'm only 5ft 1" so experience a lot of these! I hate having to sit on bar stools as getting up and down is very difficult!

  45. November 4, 2014 / 4:20 am

I'm only 5'1" and can agree with all of those! I cannot stand when people tell me I am short. Like I haven't noticed? Ha ha! I love this list πŸ˜€

  46. November 5, 2014 / 9:55 pm

Most people think I'm between 12 and 16 years old, and they are always stunned when I tell them I'm 25! I do wrestle with a lot of these things on a daily bases (especially when it comes to finding clothes that actually fit properly) but all in all, I find it amusing lol!
