The minute the autumn weather arrives, it seems to have an impact on my skin almost instantly. I like to change my skin care to suit the seasons. The harsh winds and rain can make my skin feel so dry. Here are four products I use to keep my skin hydrated and soft during the autumn and winter months.
For my eyes – renewed hope in a jar eye cream from Philosophy
My mum always taught me to use an eye cream, she used to tell me off for rubbing my eyes and dragging the skin around them when I was little. These days I am a lot more gentle with the delicate skin around my eyes, I am on to my second pot of this stuff and I love it. It’s so lightweight, meaning it sinks in super fast and doesn’t feel heavy or oily on my skin, whilst keeping puffy eye bags at bay.
For my face – vital glow resurfacing cream from Elemental Herbology.
Oh how I love this big glass pot of goodness, I am so glad that the hype around this product was true. Every night I tie my hair back with an invisi-bobble, cleanse my face, then apply this to my cheeks and forehead. This is 100% free from parabens, synthetic fragrances, mineral oils, and preservatives *applauds* I love that a little goes a very long way, if I am paying a lot for skincare I want to see a noticeable difference in my skin and I don’t want to have to be buying another jar every other month. I only apply this at night as it can be quite heavy but the texture of my skin is so much better by the morning. For me this was really worth investing in.
For my lips –Lanolips 101 ointment.*
If you are a regular reader of this blog, you’ll know I suffer from chapped lips all year round. I am drinking more water as well as applying lip balms to combat this, but sometimes especially in the winter I need something a little heavier than the standard lip balm. Boy is this stuff good, it is an all over balm so you can use it on your lips, face or body! I sometimes get dry patches of skin on my elbows a little dab of this usually sorts that right out. The only thing I didn’t like was the fiddly lid, I lost it almost instantly (typical me!) and the applicator isn’t great but I love the stuff inside, which is what counts I suppose.
For serious dry skin – Elemis superfood facial oil*
This bottle is tiny, okay I mean tiny. Do not let this fool you, the first time I used this, I applied way too much, you only need a tiny drop! I use this on my neck and my forehead at night, as this is where my skin is the most dry and thin (those pesky fine lines!) This oil leaves my skin feeling soft and supple. I feel like I’m pampering my self massaging it into my skin whilst sat in bed, in my PJ’s watching Netflix… I like that this oil doesn’t have a strong overpowering smell like some facial oils I have tried previously. It feels like a dry oil to the touch, yet leaves my skin feeling silky and hydrated – not greasy!
What do you think of these products? I have been keeping a strict skincare routine lately and my skin has thanked me for it. I just set a little reminder on my phone, so I don’t become too tired and then I can’t be bothered and just want to climb into bed. I am definitely seeing the benefits, what is your autumn / winter skincare staple?
